Drums and Drones - A Multi-modal Exploration in Fugitive Anthropology

In this presentation, I share an assemblage of visuals and audio, each deeply rooted in the meticulously geolocated histories of African American heritage. These snapshots particularly focus on the flourishing culture of drumming, which has been harnessed as an expressive medium to reclaim space and define identity.

My upmost gratitude extends to the Society for Visual Anthropology and the Robert Lemelson Foundation. Their financial support has proved instrumental in advancing my fieldwork research, titled 'Vibrations: A Multi-modal Exploration in Fugitive Anthropology.' Through a generous contribution from The Robert Lemelson Foundation, I obtained key equipment including a drone for captivating aerial photography and a 360-degree camera. These tools have intensified my spatial analysis in examining the multifaceted intersections of black fugitivity, movement, and diaspora.
